President Abbas Urges Global Leaders to Break Gaza Siege and End Israeli Aggression

Gaza: On May 21, 2025, President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas delivered a powerful and urgent appeal to world leaders, calling for immediate action to end the devastating siege imposed on the Gaza Strip by Israeli occupation forces.

Speaking from Ramallah, President Abbas emphasized the need for decisive measures to allow the entry of humanitarian and medical aid by land, sea, and air, and to halt what he described as acts of genocide, destruction, and starvation inflicted on the Palestinian population.

President Abbas urged for the permanent cessation of aggression, the release of all detainees and prisoners, and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. He asserted that it is no longer acceptable for the international community to remain silent in the face of the ongoing crimes against his people. Asserting his role as president of the State of Palestine—which includes Gaza as an integral part.

He also highlighted that this call to action should pave the way for broader goals: the reconstruction of Gaza, an end to Israeli settlement expansion, and renewed efforts to implement the two-state solution in accordance with international law. Abbas pointed to the upcoming international peace conference in New York next month as a key opportunity to push for recognition and full United Nations membership for Palestine.

The President expressed appreciation for the recent statements from leaders of Britain, France, and Canada, as well as from the European Union, donor nations, and the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee. These groups collectively condemned the blockade, displacement, and the weaponization of aid by Israel. They called for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian assistance through the United Nations and UNRWA.

Abbas thanked all countries and civil societies advocating for peace and aid delivery and reiterated Palestine’s full readiness to cooperate with any nation or entity willing to take meaningful steps toward ending the suffering of the Palestinian people. He emphasized that this moment demands unprecedented unity and bravery from Arab, Islamic, and international actors to uphold Palestinian rights, enforce international legal norms, and end colonial aggression.

Closing his address with defiance and hope, President Abbas declared that the people of Palestine will not leave their homeland and called on the world to end what he described as a war of extermination. His statement reflects not only a diplomatic plea but a declaration of resilience rooted in decades of struggle for sovereignty, justice, and peace.
